STORY BY Joshua Williamson, ART BY Goran Sudzuka, COLORS BY Miroslav Mrva
G’Day True Believers,
What if Dodgy86 were back in the Mix and doing another comic review? Well, I am and talking about What If? # 1 by Joshua Williamson with art by Goran Sudzuka and Miroslav Mrya.
Judging by the cover, you kinda know whats going on… What iF the Green Goblin stole The Infinity Gauntlet?
The Intro to this book begins with the Green Goblin aka Norman Osborn’s Childhood relationship with his father and how he became the man he is today. The overall story is based during time of Marvel’s 2010 event named Siege, where Osborn then also known as the Iron Patriot was the marquee character in Marvel. Then we are taken to Asgard; amidst a war between the Dark Avengers and the Asgardians led by Thor and his Avengers allies. This time, the tides has changed as GG wields his new weapon or so he thinks…
The title says he stole it… which means the owner may want it back!
The opening page gives a spill of what happened during Siege, this is good for readers who never viewed Siege which makes the overall story easy to follow. To be honest you didn’t miss much. Williamson does a good job of the story making it fit the tone of a typical What If? book which is not my cup of tea. The conclusion though is its saving grace – which is very interesting, involving an interaction between the adult Norman Osborn and his father! The art by Sudzuka and Mrya complement the story, giving it a classic/flashback look during the events during Siege and as well as an important Spider-Man arch.
It’s a good read, not great. But if you are tired of The Secret Wars line and are seeking a one-shot which makes sense, then do ya’self a favor and check it out!
