Review: X Deaths of Wolverine #2

Story Thus far:

During the Inferno storyline Mystique discovered that it was Moira’s that coerced Charles and Magneto to resist resurrecting Destiny. Also Moira demanded that her DNA, and her psionic backup records destroyed. Mystique, despite that fact was successful with the help of Mr. Sinister, and Emma Frost. Now Mystique and Destiny are on a mission to hunt and kill Moira.

If that wasn’t enough Moira has suddenly developed cancer which already spread to Stage IV, and the only cure she can find is be Krakoan medicine,  Moira becomes infected with Warlock’s techno-organic transmode virus in order so that she can have an arm to replace the one she lost.  In the current issue of X-deaths of Wolverine #2 Mystique, continues her hunt for vengeance, and the Transmode virus appears to have infected Wolverine.

Script:

Action packed.  This feels right. It feels like the payoff that we have been waiting for, after the House of X/Power X and inferno stuff.  The Destiny tension and drama that has been building has been down right palpable. Telenovela like. It would be amazing to see this play out as a television series.

Art:

Shocking, and gory.  Definitely the highlight of the Book. The internal panels are reminiscent, of Lee Elias’ Black Cat Mystery #50.  It’s a shame that it didn’t translate to the actual covers.

Speculation:

X-Men introduction into the MCU is purely speculative at this point but worth taking a look at, because of the planned DISNEY+ Projects.  First of Moira Taggert has a past and future deeply intertwined.  So it wouldn’t be prudent to invest in any cheap copies of (The Uncanny X-Men #96, 1975).  Cheap copies, on third party selling platforms have disappeared, and have been replaced by copies ranging from $200-650.

Speculators seemed to have forgotten about the big bad guys of the Hickman run, the Phalanx (Uncanny X-Men #305, April 1994). In the last year only 8 9.8’s have moved.  Most sold for less than $70! Crazy for a 1st appearance that is a major point in the current X-Men Story.  Speculators have treated the first appearance of Warlock, and Magus (New Mutants #18, 1984), a little more kindly. Interesting because they were created by the Phalanx.  Plenty available. Plenty have been moving.  Those that did sold at a respectable $130, and $250 newsstand for 9.8.

X Deaths of Wolverine Vol 1 #2 will come in 8 covers: CVR A Adam Kubert and Frank Martin Jr.; Momoko Stormbreakers Variant; Omega Spoiler Variant; Trading Card Variant; (2) Unknown Comic Books Exclusive Variant; an Anime Style Variant (1:25); and the Yu Variant (1:50)
